2018 Karaka Yearlings
The excitement of the impending week is upon us as we take the final steps in a three-year plan to present our group of impeccably well-prepared yearlings to prospective buyers.
It’s hard to believe that it was three years ago that we sat down and planned the matings for these youngsters and to see each individual develop into an outstanding and promising athlete is so rewarding for us. Feeling a real sense of pride is inevitable as each and every one of these home-breds carries the WS brand and stems from family lines that we here at WS are so very proud of. The past 12 months have brought us plenty of thrills as we have watched WS-bred horses make themselves and their connections proud as they perform at the top level throughout Australasia.
The spring racing carnival was of course highlighted by the major achievement of WS-bred graduates of our 2016 Karaka draft Embellish and Hasahalo who won the New Zealand Two Thousand and One Thousand Guineas respectively and provided their great sire Savabeel with his 14th and 15th individual Group 1 winners. We will commence parading at Karaka from 9:00am on Tuesday morning and we welcome you to inspect our yearlings and enjoy the top-class hospitality in our entertainment area O’Reillys.

Ardrossan’s Group 1-placed darling wins A$300,000 Gr.2 HKJC World Pool Wakeful Stakes
Second and fourth in 1600m Group 1 races in her two previous starts since being purchased privately by OTI Racing and stepping out in Australia under Chris Waller’s racing banner, De Armas (Ardrossan) stepped up in distance at Flemington on Saturday and opened her Australian account in style in the A$300,000 Gr.2 HKJC World Pool Wakeful Stakes (2000m) on Derby Day.
