Genius back in top order
15 December 2014
Savabeel mare Genius opened her summer campaign in emphatic fashion at Te Rapa this afternoon. The four-year-old returned to racing on a premier day and was a commanding winner of the Rating 65 sprint.
“I expected her to go a really good race, she’d been working really well,” said Murray Baker, who prepares the WS-bred and owned galloper with Andrew Forsman. “She’s got a good race in her this mare.”
Genius cleared the gates quickly to have the leader in her sights and took control of the race 200 metres from home. “Opie (Bosson) had given me the word that he had trialled super and I had them covered a long way out,” successful rider Matt Cameron said.
Genius is raced by breeder Garry Chittick and is out of the O’Reilly mare I Que, who is a half-sister to the Listed New Zealand St Leger winner Ritzy Lady. “It was a lovely win and well done to Murray and Andrew and the team that looks after the horse,” Chittick said.
WS will offer a brother (Lot 1024) to Genius during the Select Sale at Karaka next year.
