Pins colt makes bold Derby showing

Pinstripe Lane made a bold bid for Group One glory at Eagle Farm yesterday afternoon before finishing a gallant runner-up in the Queensland Derby. The son of Pins was trainer Troy Corstens’ first representative at the highest level and the WS-bred and sold colt did him proud after leading for much of the home stretch before succumbing in the final stages.

Runner-up in the Gr 3 Grand Prix Stakes at his previous appearance, the three-year-old ran right up to that form again to signal a bright future staying career. “He ran his guts out but found one better on the day,” jockey Damien Oliver said.

Pinstripe Lane is a son of the Danasinga mare Singasong and was a $100,000 purchase by Corstens’ Malua Racing from WS’s 2012 Premier Sale line-up at Karaka. His dam is a grand-daughter of the former champion of the Australian turf Emancipation and also the family of Railings (Gr 1 Caulfield Cup) and Virage De Fortune (Gr 1 Australia Stakes).
