Corstens thrilled with Pinstripe Lane

Troy Corstens is pinning his hopes on a Waikato Stud graduate to give him his first Group One winner in his own right as a trainer. The Malua Racing principle will saddle Pinstripe Lane in the Queensland Derby and he can’t fault the Pins colt.

“We’ve really set him for this,” Corstens said. “It’s been the long term plan and it all looks like it’s coming together. He is fit and well and spot-on. I don’t think I can have him any better.”

After an impressive win at Rosehill and a runner-up finish in the Gr 3 Grand Prix Stakes at Doomben, Pinstripe Lane promises to be a force to be reckoned with in the Eagle Farm classic. He is currently the equal second favourite.

“He copped a little bit of interference and bit of bad luck (in the Grand Prix), but I still liked the way he hit the line. I thought it augured very well for getting him over to the bigger track at Eagle Farm,” Corstens said.

“I wouldn’t swap him for anything in the race at the moment. Whether he’s good enough to win remains to be seen, but I’m confident he’s going to run a huge race.”

Pinstripe Lane was bought by Corstens out of WS’s 2012 Premier Sale consignment for $100,000 and he is a son of the Danasinga mare Singasong. A sister to the Gr 1 Hong Kong Derby runner-up Jackpot Delight, all four of her foals to race have been winners. The pedigree also boasts the presence of the Gr 1 Caulfield Cup winner Railings.
