Fast ‘N’ Famous Strikes Gold
11 February 2011
A filly with classic targets ahead of her provided exciting young Redoute’s Choice stallion Fast ‘N’ Famous with his first victory today. The WS resident’s two-year-old daughter Smoke ‘N’ Mirrors opened his account in fine style with a dominant performance at New Plymouth.
The filly was just the third first-crop starter for Fast ‘N’ Famous, whose six career wins in Australia were achieved in succession. They included the Gr 3 Gilgai Stakes and he was also placed at Gr 1 level in the Galaxy Handicap, All-Aged Stakes and the BTC Cup.
Fast ‘N’ Famous is out of the stakes-winning Zabeel mare Zalinda with her dam the Gr 1 Railway Handicap winner Alynda. She in turn produced the black-type winners Alinsky, Capestad and Altrista and this is also the family of the Gr 1 William Reid Stakes winner Turffontein.
Smoke ‘N’ Mirrors had placed three times before breaking through for Woodville trainer Francis Finnegan. “We’ll keep her on top of the ground and with time to fully mature she’ll be a nice three-year-old,” he said. “There’s races like the Levin Classic and the New Zealand 1000 Guineas for her.”
Ridden by Matthew Cameron, Smoke ‘N’ Mirrors raced outside the leader to the turn and proved superior in the straight. “We won’t do too much more and might have a look at the Matamata Breeders’ Stakes – we’ll see how she does first,” Finnegan said.
Smoke ‘N’ Mirrors is out of the Dance Floor mare Bayswater who is a half-sister to Group winners Centrofold (Sir Tristram Fillies’ Classic) and Smart Kid (Hong Kong Classic Trial). Their dam is the Gr 1 Western Australian Oaks and dual Listed winner True Devotion.
