Tyler going the extra mile again

Riverton trainer Kelvin Tyler is plotting another Riccarton mile coup with Timy Tyler.

He rocked punters with his five-year-old on the opening day of the season with a boilover win in the Gr.3 Winter Cup and the Gr.2 Coupland’s Bakeries Mile would complete the second leg of a notable double.

“He had a month off after the cup and he’s come back really well,” Tyler said. “He put on 30 or 40 kilos and I couldn’t be happier with him.”

Timy Tyler, who paid $47 when he beat the northerners Illuminati and Danza Lad in the Winter Cup, is currently a $51 chance in the early market for the feature event on November 11.

“He’ll run on October 24 in the Coupland’s Trial over 1400 metres to get him ready,” Tyler said. “That’s been the plan all the way through and he’s doing nicely.”

Timy Tyler has five wins and 17 placings from his 30 appearances and his owner-trainer is hoping for some give in the ground come cup week in Christchurch.

“I don’t believe he likes really wet tracks, he just needs a bit of give in it and as long as that sting is out of the ground he’ll be fine,” Tyler said.

Following his career highlight success at Riccarton, Timy Tyler was given a break after he finished well back on the final day of the Grand National meeting.

Ocean Park Trans-Tasman Double

With Andrew Forsman’s 3yo Ocean Park filly Pine Leaf breaking her maiden by a widening four and a quarter-lengths in the last at Cambridge on Wednesday, celebrations continued as just ten minutes later it was the Chirs Waller trained Velaris who saluted at Canterbury with fellow Ocean Park runner I Park finishing a gallant third.

Tivaci’s Movie Night steals the show at Newcastle

A sister to the Gr.1 ATC Flight Stakes (1600m) winner Never Been Kissed, the Waikato Stud-bred and raced Movie Night (NZ) was rewarded for her consistency, breaking her maiden with an all-the-way win over 1400m at Newcastle for trainer Tom Charlton.
