Savabeel’s star continues to shine

Savabeel was the leading sire by average on the opening day of the NZB Ready to Run Sale at Karaka. The star stallion had five lots sold for $1.08 million at an average of $216,000.

His leading representative was a brown colt out of Quatro sold by Mana Park for $300,000 to offshore interests. “He’s going to Hong Kong to be trained by Chris So,” Maryanne Simon said. “He’s been a very, very busy colt – in and out all the time and he was hardly ever in his box. The sale reserve on him was $200,000 so it’s been exciting to see him go well above that, but he is a top colt.”

Mana Park also sold a son of Savabeel and Pare for $200,000 to agent Phill Cataldo, who signed on behalf of Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse. “He breezed up really well and he’s got a lovely action,” Waterhouse’s racing manager Adrian Bott said.

“We’re looking for a Derby prospect and he fits the bill perfectly.”
David Ellis’ Te Akau Racing went to $230,000 for Lyndhurst Farm’s Savabeel colt out of Around The Clock while Hong Kong trainer Manfred Man purchased a colt by WS’s Cox Plate winner out of Sotela from Riversley Farm’s draft for $220,000.
