You’re So Good ready for Vinery challenge

Nigel Blackiston returns to the scene of his biggest success as a trainer on Saturday with a filly he hopes can become a Group One winner in the Vinery Stud Stakes.

Blackiston had a day to remember on Golden Slipper day three years ago when Littorio (Bellotto) sprung a surprise in the BMW to post his second Group One win.
This time it is in-form three-year-old You’re So Good (NZ) (Savabeel) the Melbourne-based trainer will have at Rosehill, and he’s confident the filly has the potential to match it with her Sydney rivals.

An all-the-way victory to You’re So Good in the Listed Alexandra Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley last start backed up her second in the Group One Australian Guineas and earned her a trip to Sydney for the Vinery (2000m).

“On the form she has shown I believe she’s been one of the best fillies in Melbourne,” Blackiston said.

“Obviously she’ll be taking on horses like Dear Demi and Norzita and the good filly from New Zealand (Habibi), so it will be a tough race and we’re racing the reverse way – but I think she’s good enough.

“Whether she’s good enough this time in, we’ll find out. But she certainly will be later on.”

You’re So Good, who’ll be ridden by Vlad Duric, continued her preparations for her first interstate assignment with a workout going the Sydney direction at Flemington on Tuesday morning.

“I’ve given her three or four gallops the reverse way and she’s adapted very easily,” Blackiston said.

“Hopefully we can draw a nice barrier and get some cover.

“This is going to be tougher than her last start. There’s some very nice fillies in it but we go there with a filly that is in good form and heading the right way.”
