Savabeel mare claims Group Two

Progressive mare Chintz credited Savabeel with further stakes success when she triumphed in the Gr 2 Rich Hill Stud Mile. The four-year-old had won four of her previous 11 starts and she took full advantage of her light weight for a career-best performance.

“It’s always great to have a share in them to help the percentages,” said co-trainer Tony Pike, who races the four-year-old with his parents Wayne and Vicki. “We bred her and she hasn’t got the best of legs so she didn’t go to the yearling sales. She’s had time to mature and she’s never had any soundness issues.”

Chintz is out of the unraced O’Reilly mare Charmed, who is a three-quarter sister to the WS-bred Irlanda. She won six races including the Gr 2 Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes and was runner-up in the Gr 1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes.
