Karaka Boost For O’Reilly’s Son

Zabeel three-year-old Meaisin displayed perfect timing in the lead-up to the Karaka sales with his emphatic victory in Melbourne yesterday. We and sold gelding drew further attention to his younger half-brother (Lot 6) by O’Reilly who will be offered on January 31 by the Matamata farm during the Premier Sale.

Trained by Danny O’Brien, Meaisin is out of the Housebuster mare Rationable and is a half-brother to five winners, including his Gr 2 Makybe Diva Stakes winning stablemate Vigor (O’Reilly), Gr 2 Avondale Guineas winner Joey Massino (O’Reilly) and Vincent Mangano (No Excuse Needed) who has been successful four times at stakes level. The second dam Rationale was a Gr 2 Great Northern Guineas winner and it is also the family of Amalfi (Gr 1 VRC Derby and Gold Onyx (Gr 1 SA Premier’s Champion Stakes).

O’Brien parted with $300,000 at Karaka in 2009 to secure Meaisin, whose pedigree also features the Listed Wellesley Stakes winner and Karaka Million contender Antonio Lombardo, from WS’s Premier draft. He broke his maiden at his fifth appearance at Yarra Glen last month and saw off better company over 1800 metres at Sandown yesterday in the hands of Glen Boss.
