Savabeel colt shows classic qualities

Group One hopes are held for a son of Savabeel who made an impressive start to his career at Ruakaka this afternoon. Dominant debut winner What’s The Story has a nomination for the NZ 1000 Guineas, but he could be more suited to taking another classic path.
Trainer Stephen McKee, who prepares the three-year-old with Eddie Chippendale, said Riccarton may come up too soon for the colt. “He would need to get a rattle on for the 2000 Guineas. We’ll see how he comes through his next race in three weeks, but there is a Derby to think of.”
An $80,000 Karaka purchase for Albert Bosma’s Go Racing Ltd, What’s The Story is a half-brother to the multiple Australian winner and Group performer Base. They are out of a half-sister to the triple Group One winner Tall Poppy (Air NZ Stakes, Thorndon Mile, Waikato Draught Sprint).
