Ungaro’s legacy lives on

Ungaro may not have won a race herself, but the daughter of Centaine has more than made up for that as a broodmare. All eight of the late WS mare’s foals to race have been winners and includes the stakes winners Somepin Anypin (Pins), Salsa (O’Reilly) and Evergreen (Danasinga). She has also left the black type placegetters Charlie Bub (O’Reilly) and O’Crikey (O’Reilly).

The latest of her brood to add to the family roll of honour is Global Assault, who posted his fifth career success at Moonee Valley yesterday. Trained by part-owner Shawn Mathrick at Cranbourne, the five-year-old also has eight placings from his 24 starts.

The O’Reilly gelding’s dam is a sister to the Gr 1 Goodwood Handicap winner Centisle and a half-sister to the multiple Group Two winner Sylvaner (Danasinga). Global Assault was bought out of WS’s 2012 Premier Sale drat at Karaka in 2012 for $90,000.
