Savabeel Mare Continues Top Form
1 October 2011
Savabeel’s progressive daughter Lady Kipling took another winning step toward a feature race target when she doubled her tally for the spring carnival at Hastings. The four-year-old had returned to racing in fine style on the middle day of the meeting with a 1400 metre success and she handled a class rise with ease to repeat the dose this afternoon.
A Gr 1 placegetter in last season’s Levin Classic, Lady Kipling got back off a solid pace and exploded through a narrow gap in the straight to win going away. “It was a great win and you’ve got to hand it to Lisa (Allpress) – it was a magnificent rider,” part-owner, Lawrence Redshaw, a long-time supporter of Murray Baker’s stable, said. “She’s a great little mare and now we’ll have a go at the Thompson.” The Gr 3 Thompson Handicap will be run at Trentham on October 22.
Out of the Al Akbar mare Akela who won four races and was Gr 3 placed in the Fayette Park and Cuddle Stakes, Lady Kipling provided Allpress with the last leg of a winning treble. “They were going fast up front and she jumped well and then drifted a bit but luck went our way,” she said.
