Epingle adds to Pins’ impressive haul

WS product Epingle provided her sire Pins with his 56th stakes winner when she triumphed in yesterday’s Gr 3 Hobart Cup at Elwick. A $A180,000 purchase for Dermot Farrington out of the farm’s 2009 Sydney Easter Yearling Sale consignment, the six-year-old has now won four races and more than $A365,000 from the Melbourne stable of Mick Kent.

Epingle was ridden by Craig Williams and they loped along in third spot before cruising clear in the straight to win by three lengths. “She was very dominant,” Williams said. “Even going to the gates, she was quite full of herself for her. She was right on song. Once she bounced out of the gates, she put herself into a commanding position. She had to do a lot of chasing to get to The Cleaner, who’s a very tough horse. When she got to the front, it might have been a bit too early. I just had to give her a reminder and she really pinned back her ears and really accelerated towards the line.”

She is a daughter of the Zabeel mare Etoile Du Nord, whose O’Reilly colt was purchased out of WS’s 2014 Karaka draft for $75,000 by Cambridge trainer Natalie Young. The mare has been a good producer with Epingle’s sister Etoile Filante a multiple winner and also expected to earn further black type honours for the family.
