O’Reilly’s Boys On Super Runs
8 December 2012
Mosse will have the opportunity on New Year’s Day to match the unbeaten run of another dynamic son of O’Reilly. The four-year-old became the WS stallion’s latest prestige winner when he produced an outstanding run to come from last to land the Gr.3 Concorde Handicap (1200m) at Ellerslie.
He is now undefeated in five starts and will make his next appearance in the Gr 1 Railway Stakes. Victory would see him equal the winning sequence of O’Reilly’s star three-year-old Sacred Falls who made it six on end last month when he triumphed in the Gr 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas.
“He just keeps on stepping up and he’s still a boy,” Mosse’s trainer and part-owner John Bell said. “The Railway’s the plan and hopefully he’ll get in now with a nice weight.” Ridden by Jason Waddell, Mosse weaved between runners in the straight today to power home and continue by a long neck his picket fence form line.
“Unbelievable, exceptional from last on the turn,” Bell said. “You have to give credit to the professional who rode the horse. Jason took the weight off to ride him and knows the horse and it was a magnificent effort on his part.”
Waddell followed a strict regime to ride at 53.5kh and continue his association with Mosse. “I’m lost for words for once,” Waddell said. “I knew it would be worth the effort to get down to his weight and knew he was good, but that was unbelievable.”
