Ungaro Strikes Again

Centaine mare Ungaro maintained her 100 percent record at stud when her three-year-old son Somepin Anypin was victorious in Sydney yesterday. Trained by Gary Portelli, he was a clear-cut winner over 1200 metres at the Canterbury meeting to open his account.

By resident sire Pins, the WS-bred and sold gelding is a half-brother to the stakes winners and top-flight performers Salsa and Rule Of Engagement-Evergreen (Hong Kong) while Charlie Bub, O’Crikey and Darn Good Singa have also been successful. Their dam is a sister to the Gr 1 Goodwood Handicap winner Centisle and a half-sister to the Gr 2 Sunline Jubilee Stakes and Marsh Classic (twice) winner Sylvaner.

Somepin Anypin was making his third raceday appearance yesterday and had weighed in at both his previous starts. He was bought out of WS’s 2009 Premier Sale draft to Karaka in 2009 for $30,000 by New South Wales-based agent Vin Cox.
