Scarlett Lady Out Of Spring Action

Top-class Savabeel mare Scarlett Lady has been ruled out of the rest of the spring carnival with a leg injury. The highly-fancied Caulfield and Melbourne Cups hope will be now undergo minor surgery and be spelled to return for an autumn campaign.

Tuhikaramea trainers Graeme and Debbie Rogerson made the decision to end her campaign this week after only one start in Melbourne this spring. Her Sydney part-owner Max Whitby said it appeared Scarlett Lady had injured herself during the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield on September 17 when she finished eighth behind Lion Tamer.

“She has a bone chip that needs to be removed. She got checked in the Underwood at Caulfield and we think that’s where it happened. She didn’t eat up the next day and we got vets in to treat her. The x-rays finally showed the chip which needs to be removed. It’s a minor problem that’s had a big impact but she will recover and be back bigger and better for the autumn.”
