Somepin Anypin Class Above Rivals

Somepin Anypin completed a cracking day for WS when he posted an effortless victory in the closing event at Rosehill. The freegoing chestnut son of Pins dashed straight to the front and he held a strong gallop throughout to comfortably account for last season’s Gr 1 Spring Champion Stakes winner Erewhon.

Trained by Gary Portelli, the four-year-old had finished runner-up in both his starts this preparation and two runs back had been a victim of his gate being slow to open. “There was a little but of a query on him in the ground but he’s promised plenty and hasn’t had that much luck in his last two runs,” stable spokesman Michael Hoysted said. “He’s matured a fair bit this time in and he’s a lot stronger.”

Successful jockey Jim Cassidy said he had few concerns during the race. “We didn’t take any prisoners – he had no weight and it was just a matter of keeping his momentum up.” While the four-year-old coped with the rain-affected track today, he was a more potent prospect on improved going. “He lets down a lot better on top of the ground,” Cassidy said.

Somepin Anypin is a half-brother to the Listed winners and Gr 1 performers Salsa and Rule Of Engagement-Evergreen (Hong Kong) while Charlie Bub, O’Crikey and Darn Good Singa have also been successful. Their dam Ungaro (Centaine) is a sister to the Gr 1 Goodwood Handicap winner Centisle and a half-sister to the Gr 2 Sunline Jubilee Stakes and Marsh Classic (twice) winner Sylvaner. Somepin Anypin was bought out of WS’s 2009 Premier Sale draft to Karaka in 2009 for $30,000 by New South Wales-based agent Vin Cox.
