IGGI POP TO BACK UP IN G2 TULLOCH

Iggi Pop (Savabeel), impressive winner at Randwick Kensingtonon Sunday, is set to back up in Saturday’s Tulloch Stakes (Gr 2,2000m) at Rosehill.
Iggi Pop was only have his second start in Australia and third overall. The former New Zealander has emerged as a classics contender for trainer John O’Shea.
“I don’t know if he would back up three weeks in a row to the Derby but there are other Derbys,” O’Shea said.
“I’m excited by him.
“James McDonald is booked to ride in the Tulloch.
“The Frank Packer Plate at the end of the Sydney carnival would also be a nice race.
The South Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) and Queensland Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) are run in May and June respectively.
Iggi Pop is by 2004 Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) winner Savabeel (Zabeel), who was runner-up to Plastered (Laranto) in that year’s Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m).
Iggi Pop’s dam Freequence (O’Reilly) came close to recording a second success earlier in the day, with her grey No Excuse Needed son I Do running home for third at Manawatu.
To date, Freequence has distinguished herself with three winners for four to race and hails from directly from the family of the Gr.1 winner Court Ruler.
