Adorabeel Too Tough in Quality

No jockey enjoys losing but expat-Kiwi Jason Collett’sdefeat on Aspiration Quality favourite Telepathic (NZ)(Mossman) at yesterday’s Randwick meeting hurt

more than most.

Collett turned down the winning ride on Adorabeel(NZ) (Savabeel) to stick with the Chris Waller-trained mare,who followed the eventual winner throughout the race butcouldn’t get past her.

Sam Clipperton picked up the mount on Adorabeel to land his first stakes win for Joe Pride and he was well aware Collett was behind him in the run.

“I wasn’t going to let him past,” Clipperton said.

In a longshot-dominated finish, the eighteen-to-one chance Adorabeel was tenacious in holding out by a head the fast-finishing Entertains (Street Cry) – specked by James McDonald followers at prices as high as $41 before closing

at $26 – with twenty-to-one shot Intimate Moment (NZ)(Dubawi) another neck away, just ahead of Collett’s $2.60 favourite.

Pride won the same race with Sacred Choice (Choisir) in 2010, a year before she returned to win the Doncaster Mile, and he hoped yesterday’s race would also be a springboard to bigger things for Adorabeel.

“I don’t know if she’s a Sacred Choice but she’s going to keep improving,” the Warwick Farm trainer said.

Adorabeel is likely to have her next run in the Epona Stakes at Rosehill in two weeks.
