Henwood Points to Stakes Class Ahead

Clear-cut Savabeel favourite Henwood finished strongly off a good speed to record the fifth win of his brief career in the Melbourne Signage Concepts 0-90 Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
The John Sadler-trained five-year-old proved a class above his rivals, and the ease of the win was of no surprise to rider Glen Boss or Sadler’s assistant trainer Troy Corstens.
Corstens was happy in the run, although the race didn’t pan out as he had predicted. “We thought there would be less speed on than what there was, but Bossy went to Plan B and rode a great race,” Corstens said.
“He is a really good horse this bloke, and is definitely going places. “We’ve had to be patient, but it is going to be worth it.”
Henwood has been a slow maturer, but looks to be putting it together as an early five-year-old.
Raced by Raffles Farm, who minutes earlier had enjoyed success with Sacred Flyer at Rosehill, Henwood was given a decent wrap by Boss after he dismounted.
“There was more pace on than what we had predicted, but he travelled well and was always going to win really,” Boss said. “He is probably a couple of grades better than those horses today – definitely stakes class for sure.
“He has been a work in progress, but John and Troy have done a good job with him and he was here for business today.”
Bred by Dormello Partnership No.1 Syndicate, Henwood has missed a place only three times from 13 starts and today’s win took his earnings to just shy of $150,000.
