Rhythm To Spare rode the speed to score a determined win in Sunday’s $130,000 Kilmore Cup (1600m).

Settled in second place on the quarters of Majestic Duke to the home turn, Mark Zahra asked for more effort into the home straight on the Mike Moroney-trained six-year-old.

Eximius ($13) threatened along the inside over the final 200m but Rhythm To Spare ($7) stayed on strongly to score by a half-head with Longeron ($6) 1 1/4-lengths away third after having every chance.

Zahra told Racing Victoria Rhythm To Spare relaxed beautifully for him.

“He just put himself there and settled into a lovely rhythm,” Zahra said.

“I was really happy with where I was because it was a big weight (60kg) around this track.

“Every time I clicked him up he picked up underneath me and I was really confident coming to the turn.

“He won very well. I let him drift in a bit late and once he saw Eximius he found another bit on the line.”

Anthony Feroce, racing manager for trainer Mike Moroney, said the son of Pins may head to Sydney for a feature race in the New Year.

“He’s done very well for us and all being well we might send him up for the Villiers,” Feroce said.

“He’s a very good miler, he’s only been over further twice and he finished second in the Grand Prix Stakes and fourth in the Queensland Derby.”
