Savabeel filly true to her name
25 March 2013
You’re So Good became the 24th stakes winner for WS resident Savabeel when successful at Moonee Valley on Friday night. A fast finishing second in the Gr 1 Australian Guineas proved sound enough form for her to open her stakes account in the Listed Schweppes Alexandra Stakes (1600m).
Given a positive ride by Vlad Duric, she took the lead after looking as if she would be caught wide and the three-year-old kicked clear on the turn to seal victory. Trainer Nigel Blackiston will now take the filly to Sydney for the Gr 1 Vinery Stude Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on April 6 and may consider a start in the Group 1 ATC Australian Oaks (2400m). “We’ll just be careful, we’ll see how she pulls up and we’ll monitor her over the next week but I’d like to take her to Sydney for the Vinery,” he said. “We have put in a nomination for the Oaks but whether we get that far, time will tell.”
“I think she is better ridden getting back. Vlad tried to get some cover early but there was no pace, she was caught wide, so he opted to go forward. At the end of the day, she was the best horse in the field and he rode her accordingly. She’s a super filly and to get the black type win and Group I-placed, she’s a very expensive filly now. I reckon she’s the best filly I have trained. I trained Littorio and he was pretty smart, but this filly is going the right way.”
An $80,000 from WS’s draft at the 2011 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling sale, You’re So Good is the fourth foal of the winning Flying Spur mare Lightning Spur who is a half-sister to dual Gr1 winner Melito and to the stakes-placed Sister Declan and Across The Moon.
