Sora Soars Above Rivals
30 December 2011
Andrew Scott’s pre-race concerns with Sora Dawning were dispelled in fine style when the filly coasted home at Taupo today. The WS-bred and sold daughter of Savabeel confirmed the early promise she has showed with a clear-cut 1400 metre victory in the hands of Hong Kong rider Thomas Leung.
The Matamata trainer had expected the three-year-old to go close but had some reservations about her ability to handle the rain-affected going. They were quickly laid to rest when she raced comfortably on the outside of the leader to the turn before dashing clear in the straight.
A $22,500 weanling purchase, Sora Dawning had finished fifth on debut at Te Aroha before closing late for third at Tauranga earlier this month. She is out of the Danasinga mare Dawning who is a half-sister to the multiple Gr 2 winner Century Kid (TJ Smith Stakes, QTC Cup, Premiere Stakes) and the family of WS’s Australasian and international Gr 1 winner Starcraft.
