Rhythm To Spare back to winning ways

After a dreadful trip to Sydney, Rhythm To Spare (NZ) (Pins) recaptured his best form to impressively win the Peter Armytage Handicap on Saturday at Flemington.

Rhythm To Spare produced his two career worst runs, which left trainer Mike Moroney mystified as the four-year-old had form the clockwise direction.

Moroney said he thought Rhythm To Spare would handle the rain-affected ground, but the gelding proved hopeless on it.

He said he made a “blue” leaving the blinkers on him as he over raced and the last start the horse simply didn’t fire.

But, Rhtyhm To Spare showcased his real ability as he reeled in tearaway leader Spacecraft (Galileo) inside the 200 metres to win comfortably.

“That’s more like the Rhyhtm To Spare that we know,” Moroney said.

“It is good to see him back.”

While Rhythm To Spare campaigned in Brisbane last year where he ran second behind Hawkspur (Purrealist) in the Grand Prix, Moroney doubted the horse would return this year.

Rhythm To Spare, $3.80, scored by one and a quarter lengths from Minnie Downs (Clangalang), $10, with two and a quarter lengths to Oregon Spirit (Bel Esprit), $20, third.
