Updates For Karaka Colts

Boxing Day racing resulted in two important pedigree updates for a pair of Karaka-bound colts with WS to offer half-brothers to Awapuni winners Jack’s Point and Savour The Moment. The former executed Lisa Latta’s plan to perfection when he was successful in yesterday’s Summer Cup on his home track. The Awapuni trainer had set the gelding for the metric mile feature and, with the benefit of an outing on the opening day of the carnival, got home narrowly but well for the thick end of the $20,000 stake.

With five wins and six placings from his 15 appearances, he has been a reliable performer for Latta and loyal stable client John Street. Jack’s Point was bred by WS and realised $140,000 to the bid of Taupo-based bloodstock agent Paul Beamish at Karaka in 2008. He is out of the winning Kinjite mare Activate who is a three-quarter sister to Gr 2 Sha Tin Vase winner Astimonti. His half-brother by O’Reilly (Lot 673) will be offered during the Select Sale at Karaka.

WS stallion Savabeel also made his mark at the Boxing Day meeting with his son Savour The Moment an impressive debut winner of the opening event. The three-year-old, who is out of the Masterclass mare Dancing Mistress, was bred and sold by the Matamata farm for $37,500 during the Premier Sale at Karaka in 2009 and is a half-brother to two winners from the family of Gr 1 winners Anacheeva and Headturner. WS will offer another half-brother (Lot 257) by Pins during the Premier session of the 2011 National Yearling Sale.
