Pins Filly Does Family Proud

A well-related filly with a pedigree that has made a significant impact in Australia looked headed for much better company following her winning debut for WS at yesterday’s Nowra meeting.

The three-year-old Heels had trialled in New Zealand before she joined Gary Portelli’s Sydney stable during the winter.

She placed in two further trials for the Warwick Farm trainer and was untroubled to score by two lengths over 1200 metres in the hands of Lane Moloney. A daughter of Pins, Heels is out of the Centaine mare Ungaro who is a sister to the Gr 1 Goodwood Handicap and Gr 3 Tesio Stakes winner Centisle and a half-sister to the Gr 2 Diamond Jubilee and Marsh Stakes (twice) winner Sylvaner (Danasinga).

All Ungaro’s six foals to race have been winners and feature the Listed Winter Championship Stakes winner Salsa (O’Reilly), who was Gr 1 placed in the NZ Breeders’ Stakes and her brothers Charlie Bub and O’Crickey who have also been black-type performers. Their Danasinga half-brother Rule Of Engagement won the Listed Meyninck Stakes and was Gr 1 placed in the QTC Sires’ Produce Stakes.
