Dancer back to her best

WS graduate Savannah Dancer has bounced back to her best to reward the faith shown in her by connections. Trained by Michael Freedman for the successful Raffles Farm Stable, the mare started her Singapore career in good fashion before her form tailed off.

She posted two wins at Kranji earlier this year and finished third in the Gr 3 Three Rings Trophy before she lost her way. “The thing with this mare was that while she hadn’t been racing all that well her work all the way through had been good,” Freedman said. “She had a few feet issues which were niggling away at her after racing on the hard tracks earlier in the year and now that she’s got her confidence back she might be able to go on with it.

“She’s only a little thing and she had been getting some buffeting in her previous runs. Full credit must go to Dato Yap. He could have sent her back to New Zealand this year for the breeding season. She’s a good genuine mare and she’ll probably head back there next year and go off to stud.”

A juvenile winner in New Zealand from the stable of Tony Pike and Mark Donoghue, Savannah Dancer recorded her latest win over 1200 metres at Kranji on Friday night. She is a daughter of Savabeel and the Danasinga mare Scally Wag who is a half-sister to WS’s Gr 1 Otaki-Maori WFA winner Critic and the family of champion stallion O’Reilly.
