Gr.1 Mission Ahead for Dublin Lass

A Group One mission is firmly on the agenda for Dublin Lass after her barnstorming win in the Bright Shadow Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.

Jockey Tommy Berry brought Dublin Lass, the $3.20 favourite, with a well-timed finish to win by a length from Glenbawn Dame ($51) with Hidden Pearl ($5.50) a short neck away third.

The Group One Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast on June 20 is being seriously considered by the Snowden stable.

“The Tatt’s Tiara is sitting there in three weeks time so the timing is right and it’s certainly food for thought,” co-trainer Peter Snowden said.

“She’s a mare in form and you don’t often get a crack at winning Group Ones with these sort of horses so we’d have to give it serious thought.”

Dublin Lass clocked a race record in the Bright Shadow running 1min08.46secs, equalling the time set by Ball Of Muscle in the QTC Cup one race earlier.

“She’s come back a more complete mare this time in although I’d just love to see her put on a bit more condition than what she’s carrying at the moment,” Snowden said.

“Since she’s been up here at Tony Gollan’s stables she’s done really well and it’s being reflected in how well she’s racing.”

Berry said Dublin Lass settled further back than expected but was confident the mare was travelling well enough to win on the home turn.

“I thought she was my best ride on the card and they found the perfect race for her,” he said.
