Rolling Pin Flattens Stakes Field Again

Pins’ son Rolling Pin made it back to back black-type when claiming the Gr 2 Shannon Stakes in eventful fashion at Rosehill recently.

The five-year-old heavily bumped Offenders about 50 metres from home en route to a narrow win, but stewards determined the contact didn’t affect the outcome of the race and jockey Kerrin McEvoy’s protest was dismissed.

“We did brush, probably shifted in a horse but I was always going to hold him,” jockey Corey Brown said. “He actually hung in pretty much the whole race, he’s got a bit of a habit for it. He sat outside the leader today, he was very warmed up and aggressive but he did the job. Obviously he’s coming off a good win up there at Newcastle in the Listed Cameron Hcp, he dictated and did what he wanted.”

It was Rolling Pin’s second career Group win and his second in as many starts after claiming the Cameron Handicap (1500m) at Newcastle earlier this month. A $60,000 Karaka yearling, he is out of the Mi Preferido mare Gypsy’s Daughter who won twice at Listed level in Australia and once in New Zealand.

Rolling Pin is the nine-time G1 stallion Pins’ 45th individual stakes winner.
