Savabeel 2YO wins Listed Talindert Stakes at Flemington

While Pasadena Girl (NZ) (Savabeel) may have rocked punters when she upset her more fancied rivals in the Listed Talindert Stakes at Flemingtonlast Saturday, trainer Peter Moody wasn’t at all surprised by the rankoutsider’s win.

The daughter of Redoute’s Choice mare Nina FromPasadena – a three-time winner from the Rogerson stablesix or seven years back – was sent out as a $61 chance in the 1100-metre juvenile feature and after tracking the leader sprinted well for jockey Vlad Duric to score by a length.
“The last thing I said to Vlad when I legged him up was that I think this is a real good filly,” Moody said. “She’s done everything above what she should be doing at this point inher career.

“She’s an immature Savabeel filly but she’s always shown a tad of brilliance at home. I’ve been taken with her from day one.”

Fellow debutante Stay With Me (Street Cry), a daughter of five-time Group One winner Miss Finland, made a run from the back for Michael Walker then battled on to grab second, shading the pacemaker Take Pride (Reward For Effort), who
held on for third. Moody said his “gut feeling” is that he will turn out Pasadena Girl but if the filly did come through the race well then the VRC Sires Produce Stakes at Flemington on March 14 could be a nice option.

Duric labelled Pasadena Girl a “nice filly” and said she handled herself very professionally.

Pasadena Girl is bred by Helen Gaye & Graham Bax and is the 8th individual stakes winner for Savabeel this season.
