Sharbeela deserved winner at Hawera

Sharbeela finally added another win to her record when was successful in a driving finish at Hawera to cap off a genuine run of form. The daughter of Savabeel had weighed in five times from her last six appearances so was due a major reward.
“That was as good a ride as you’ll see and she’s a mare that’s been showing enough and teasing her owners into keeping her in work so she deserves this,” Wanganui trainer Alexander Fieldes said. Apprentice Michael Dee settled her behind the leading pack and she hit the line strongly to score by a half-head. “She was a bit reluctant to go between runners and she didn’t really cop the track so it was a good effort,” Dee said.
Passed in at the sales, Sharbeela was bred by Mary Chittick and Chris Turner and the latter now races the five-year-old with a group of friends. Turner also trained the dam Sahrhys to win the Gr 3 Lowland Stakes and Sharbeela’s half-sister Rhysess to win the Gr 3 Cuddle Stakes.
