Sangster proves trainers right

Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young knew Sangster was on the verge of a return to form and their judgment has proved right on the money.

The Cambridge trainers saw enough in the stayer to get him on a plane back to Melbourne, despite unplaced efforts in both of his resuming runs at home.

That has proved a wise move with Sangster finishing a close and luckless second behind The Cleaner in Friday night’s Gr.3 JRA Cup at Moonee Valley.

“It was so nice to see him back and we know a lot of people were saying what are they doing bringing him back over, but we knew the horse was really well in himself,” Young said.

“In another stride he would have got The Cleaner, who is a really good horse. He’s come through the race great and he feels really good.”

Sangster will make his next appearance in the $A200,000 Gr.2 Herbert Power Stakes at Caulfield on October 11.

“The 2400 metres will be ideal for him and if he won that then he’d be on a Caulfield Cup path,” Young said.

“If not, there are plenty of other options over here like the Moonee Valley Cup and the Sandown Cup and they are winnable races for him.”

The stable are also hoping to gain a run at Flemington this Saturday with their $A1.5 million Gr.1 VRC Derby (2500m) hopeful Atmosphere.

“He’s in the Super Impose over 1800 metres and we’re hoping to get a start to let him have a look at Flemington,” Young said. “If it doesn’t look like he’ll get in then he’ll run on Thursday at Bendigo.

“He’s been very unlucky here and should have won two by now. The acceleration he showed the other day suggests he’s a serious horse.”

Atmosphere struck trouble at the start when fifth on debut and was then a close second in a Sale maiden earlier this month. – NZ Racing Desk.
