Pins Colt Easter Star
7 April 2011
Mark Chittick was right on the money when he tipped their chestnut colt by Pins to be WS’s star lot at the Sydney Easter Yearling Sale. His expectations were met with the youngster topping the draft when he sold for $A370,000 to the final bid of George Moore’s Hong Kong-based bloodstock agency.
Resident stallion Pins was the dominant force in the consignment with six in the consignment and Chittick had nominated the son of Heavenly to be the pick of them. “He’s a great type with a really sexy pedigree,” he said.
The youngster’s dam by Danasinga is a sister to the stakes winner and Gr 1 Coolmore Classic runner-up Forum Floozie and a half-sister to the outstanding performer and sire Starcraft. The WS-bred and sold son of Soviet Star was the winner of four Gr 1 events in Australia and New Zealand. He went on to become the first New Zealand-bred international Gr 1 when he beat Europe’s finest in the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Newmarket.
Hong Kong interests also signed at $A125,00 for the Pins colt out of Enjoy who is the daughter of the Listed Champagne Stakes winner Playful Fingers. This is the family of the South African Group winners Hancock Park and Park Lane with Girl Hussler an Australian stakes winner featured in the pedigree.
Savabeel’s progeny have been enjoying outstanding success across the racetracks of Australasia this season and WS’s colt by the Zabeel stallion was snapped up by his greatest admirer Graeme Rogerson for $A150,000. The colt is a half-brother to the Queensland Derby winner Lachlan River with their dam the winning Last Tycoon mare Viveasha. This is the family of the former top sprinter Sudurka (Salinger Stakes, Oakleigh Plate).
Rogerson, who prepared Savabeel as a three-year-old to beat the older horses in his Cox Plate victory, also went to $A100,000 for the O’Reilly filly out of Ever Clever. She is a half-sister to five winners including Ritzy Lady (Listed New Zealand St Leger) from the family of South African Group winners Hancock Park and Park Lane.
Auckland bloodstock agent Michael Otto won the race for the Pins filly out of the Zabeel mare Etoile du Nord at $A70,000. The dam won five races including the Listed Marton Cup and she was also twice placed at Gr 2 level in the Championship Stakes and the Hawke’s Bay Gold Cup.
