Stud Doubles Up At Seymour
10 November 2011
WS graduates posted a winning double in Melbourne yesterday with Brambles and Builder O’Reilly both successful at the Seymour meeting. The former is a son on Savabeel and was a $100,000 purchase by leading Caulfield trainer Peter Moody during the Premier Sale at Karaka last year.
The three-year-old is from a WS family that has enjoyed outstanding success in Australia with his brother Lopov the winner of five races for trainer Danny O’Brien. Brambles is a son of the stakes-performed Pins mare Prickle who is a sister to Legsman. He has also won five races, including the Listed Winter Cup, from the Randwick yard of John O’Shea.
It is also the family of WS’s multiple Gr 1 winner and former champion filly Slight Chance and the Gr 3 winner and successful sire Dane Shadow. Brambles finished third at his Bendigo debut last month and yesterday stepped up to 1600 metres for a clear-cut win in the hands of Brad Rawiller.
Builder O’Reilly is a four-year-old son of the prolific Crested Wave mare Jelignite Jen who has left nine winners from 10 foals to race. Her progeny include the Gr 2 Waikato Gold Cup and Listed Manawatu Breeders’ Stakes winner Singing Star (Danasinga).
Trained by Leon Corstens, Builder O’Reilly was bought by the stable at Karaka in 2009 for $130,000 and now has two wins and five placings from his 10 career appearances. He was ridden to a comfortable 2000 metre victory yesterday by regular rider Steven King.
