Savabeel Stayer In Fine Fettle

Gai Waterhouse is typically upbeat about Tullamore’s spring prospects ahead of his resuming run in Saturday’s $A125,000 Gr 3 Tramway Handicap. While the 1400 metres at Warwick Farm will be well short of the Savabeel five-year-old’s best, his champion trainer is expecting a bold showing.

“He’s a really good horse and he’ll run a terrific race,” she said. “He’s a Kiwi stayer and nothing surprises me about them.” Tullamore was bought by clients of Waterhouse’s stable after the gelding had posted a win and three placings from the Foxton stable of David Haworth and Matt Dixon.

He has been in immaculate form in Australia with with four further victories and seven placings from 11 appearances. He has not raced since his Gr 2 defeat of Glass Harmonium in the Gr 2 Brisbane Cup at Eagle Farm in June and is on target for the spring staying features. “I think he’s a 100-1 for the Melbourne Cup and you should take it,” Waterhouse said.
