Winning Double On The Cards

Ward set up the possibility of a notable brotherly double for WS when he claimed the first victory of his brief career at yesterday’s Gosford meeting.

A winning result from the new partnership of Graeme Rogerson and Lee Freedman, the O’Reilly colt was successful over 1600 metres at his fourth appearance.

The three-year-old is a brother to the Lisa Latta-trained juvenile Attivaree, who has placed in both his starts to date and will seek a breakthrough in the opening event at Trentham tomorrow. They are out of the Kinjite mare Activate, who won six times, with recent Awapuni winner Jack’s Point (Pins) the star so far of her brood.

Ward was a $115,000 purchase for Rogerson out of WS’s 2010 Select Sale consignment to Karaka while Attivaree was a $45,000 buy in 2011 for Latta. She is also the guiding hand behind the six-time winner Jack’s Point, who cost $140,000 at Karaka.
