Winning Omens For Stallion

A winning double this week has set the tone for what promises to be an exciting time in Australia for the WS-based stallion Savabeel this weekend. He will be strongly represented in Saturday’s feature events at Eagle Farm with his daughters Scarlett Lady and Dowager Queen leading contenders for the Gr 1 Queensland Oaks and Gr 2 Sires’ Produce Stakes respectively.

Savabeel hot run of form has continued in the lead-up with Savaging successful on the synthetic track at Sandown yesterday to follow the winning lead of Dublin Darlin from Monday’s Ararat meeting. The latter was she was making her seventh raceday appearance and appreciated the step up to 2000 metres to post her maiden victory. She had weighed in at all five of her previous outings and produced a dominant performance to score at her middle-distance debut.

Dublin Darlin was purchased by Bendigo trainer Shaun Dwyer for $30,000 out of WS’s Select Sale draft to Karaka in 2008. She is a daughter of the winning Nassipour mare Jewel Of Ireland, who was also stakes placed in the Belmont Oaks, who is out of a half-sister to the crack Hong Kong galloper Indigenous (Champions & Chater Cup-twice, HK Gold Cup-twice).

Savaging, the winner of four races, was a $300,000 purchase by trainer Danny O’Brien from the WS consignment to Karaka in 2008 and is out of the Centaine mare Gio who has produced the stakes winners Crepe De Chine and Arenti. It is also the Gr 1 family of Glamour Puss and Vision And Power.
