O’REILLY EMERGING AS A BROODMARE SIRE
2 July 2011

Having established himself as one of the leading stallions in New Zealand through the Group One winners like Alamosa, Master O’Reilly, The Jewel, Swick and this season’s classic winning filly Shamrocker, O’Reilly (Last Tycoon) is beginning to advertise his effectiveness as a broodmare sire.
A Group One winner himself of the Telegraph Handicap (Gr 1, 1200m) at three when he was named New Zealand Horse of the Year, O’Reilly registered his 13th stakeswinner as a broodmare sire last weekend when Frozone (Reset) took the Tattersall’s Racing Club Mile (Listed, 1600m) at Eagle Farm.
Frozone is the first foal out of the O’Reilly mare Ice Maiden, who is also represented by this season’s Avondale Guineas (Gr 2, 1600m) winner Icepin (Pins) and the Flemington winner Pins On Ice (Pins)
Beyond his 13 stakeswinners, O’Reilly’s ability as a broodmare sire is highlighted by a 66.8% winners-to-runners ratio.
O’Reilly’s better winners as a broodmare sire include the AJC Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) and New Zealand 1000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Daffodil (No Excuse Needed), the New Zealand 2000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner The Pooka (Tobougg), Alister Clark Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) winner Sound Journey (Good Journey) and the Mannerism Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) winner Tootsie (Pins).
Overall O’Reilly has 49 stakeswinners as a stallion and is on the verge of becoming just the 11th stallion in New Zealand history to sire 50 or more stakeswinners.
O’Reilly stands at Waikato Stud in 2011 for a service fee of NZ$50,000 plus GST, LFG.
