Black Caviar Family Strikes Again

The family of the greatest sprinter on the planet struck at Flemington and New Plymouth last Saturday.

Making the best possible debut, Black Caviar’s $1million Casino Prince half-brother All Too Hard ran home a stylish 1.5 length winner in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m).

“There is always a fair bit of pressure on the horse and everyone is looking at him,” said Wayne Hawkes, who trains the Patinack Farm colt in partnership with father John and brother Michael.

The brilliance of the World Champion Sprinter’s extended family was also there to see in New Zealand on Saturday when Waikato Stud’s smart filly Glad claimed all before her over a mile at New Plymouth.

A daughter of Pins, Glad is out of the winning Rory’s Jester mare McHappy, who is a half-sister to Black Caviar’s grand-dam.

“It’s the family of Scandinavia and Magnus (Gr.1 Galaxy Hcp) so you’d be a little bit worried about stepping up to the mile on that pedigree,” Matamata trainer Jason Bridgman said.

However, Glad (NZ) made short work of her rivals and came with a sustained finish to win going away by a length. The lightly-tried filly had won her maiden over 1400 metres at her previous appearance.

“She’s a kind filly and on her run today you wouldn’t be surprised if she got a bit further, particularly against her own age,” Bridgman said.

“Her biggest asset is her ability to relax.”

WS-bred On The Lash scores at Sha Tin

Twenty-four hours following the final WS Cox Plate meeting run on the Moonee Valley track of old before it shuts for two years to make way for a new precinct, the race’s 2004 winner, Savabeel, continued his roll of runners, and this time it was via five-year-old On The Lash (ex Candelabra) at Sha Tin.
