Mary makes it two in a row

Well-related mare Mary Quant won’t be rushed back to middle distance racing.
The WS-bred and raced daughter of O’Reilly and Legs is unbeaten in two sprint outings this preparation and trainers Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott are happy to keep her to the shorter trips.
Mary Quant was a winner over 2000 metres last season, but that was more by necessity than design. “By the time we got her going last time all the stakes races were over ground so we were forced to go that way,” Scott said. “We’ll concentrate on miles or 1400 metres at this stage of her career.”
A first-up winner last month, Mary Quant returned to Arawa Park on Tuesday for another convincing victory. “She had to work a bit to get outside the leader and then kicked strongly,” Scott said.
She was too good for her stablemate Orange Peel with the Savabeel mare Pipi Beel. She was making her first appearance since suffering a leg injury when third in the Gr 3 Lowland Stakes earlier this year.
