Frozone Earns Just Reward

Genuine five-year-old Frozone posted a well-earned victory in yesterday’s Listed Tattersall’s Club Mile at Eagle Farm. The WS-bred and sold gelding had previously placed at black-type level in the Strawberry Road Handicap and the Ipswich and Grafton Cups.

He is trained on the Gold Coast by Alan Bailey who is tossing up whether to have another crack at the latter two events this year. “I’ll wait and see. I am half-thinking to take him, but I’m just not sure if he’ll run the distance,” he said. “He had the cup won last year and wilted and it was much the same story in the Ipswich Cup.”

Rider Scott Seamer took full advantage on Saturday of Frozone’s ace draw to give him the perfect run and they were dominant in the straight. “He seems more a sprinter-miler now than a horse that will get 2000 metres-plus,” Seamer said. “The good barrier and speed helped, but more often than not he’ll win races like that.”

Frozone was bought by Bailey out of WS’s Premier Sale consignment to Karaka in 2009 for $200,000. He is the first foal of the O’Reilly mare Ice Maiden who is from the family of multiple Gr.1 winner Kinjite (Centaine) and the Matamata farm’s current resident and Ascot Vale Stakes winner Scaredee Cat (Tale Of The Cat).
