Winners keep flowing for WS home-breds

A double at Wingatui on Thursday advanced WS’s impressive tally so far for the week. Horses in their full or part-ownership have now six races in as many days.

Mary Quant and Ngarimu started the ball rolling with wins last Saturday and Sunday, a double that was followed by Coldplay and Trigger hitting the mark at Te Aroha on Wednesday. On Thursday it was the turn of All Jokes Aside and Sofia Loren at the Otago meeting.

A four-year-old son of Pins, All Jokes Aside was making his first start for local trainer Steven Prince after placing in five of his nine northern appearances. A half-brother to the Australian stakes winner Classique Ivory (Savabeel), he is out of a sister to the Gr 1 Thorndon Mile winner Sir Kinloch.

Sofia Loren is prepared by Claire Anderton, also at Wingatui, and now has two wins and six placings from her 11 outings. By former stud resident Fast ‘N’ Famous, she is out of the Pins mare Haberdashery, a half-sister to the Gr 1 Queensland Derby winner Lachlan River.

Saltcoats stakes his claim for Premier’s Cup glory

Saltcoats (Ardrossan) stormed to a 2.33-length win in the rescheduled $160,000 Premier’s Cup Prelude, setting up a possible tilt at the Gr.3 Premier’s Cup later this month.
