Pasadena Girl Makes it Two From two

A bargain Inglis Premier purchase by staying sire Savabeel, talented two year-old filly Pasadena Girl again proved too good at Flemington last Saturday when taking out the Gr.3 VRC Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes.

A winner of the Listed VRC Talindert Stakes on debut last month, the Peter Moody trained filly came with a late rush to win the 1200 metre sprint by a short neck and has now won $163,500 for her big team of owners.

Bred in New Zealand by Helen-Gaye and Graham Bax, Pasadena Girl was consigned to the 2014 Inglis Premier Yearling sale by Eliza Park International where she was purchased by Moody for just $25,000.

Speaking about the filly’s modest cost as a yearling after she won on debut, Moody said there was nothing physically wrong with her, but she was a fruit out of season so to speak.

“She was a Savabeel probably in the wrong sale. Everybody was looking for big, strong VOBIS horses. I’m happy to have a stable full of them they have been terrific for me. We try and buy 10, 15 or 20 every year and this year we can’t afford to buy then because everyone has woken to it. He (Savabeel) is a terrific stallion,” he said.

She is the first foal of the three-time winning Redoute’s Choice mare Nina From Pasadena, a sister to the stakes-placed Renewed Vitality.

Fourth dam is the Group II Longchamp Prix del’Opera winner Bella Colora the dam of three stakes winners and a half-sister to the grand producer Colorspin the dam of Opera House, Kayf Tara and Zee Zee Top.
