Mabeel makes amends

Progressive galloper Mabeel laid to rest a ghost of Ellerslie past with his front-running victory on Wednesday. The lightly-raced Savabeel four-year-old’s previous visit to racing headquarters earlier in the month had proved a disaster.

“He stumbled out of the gates and I lost an iron and then he bolted on me so I had to kick the other one out,” rider Opie Bosson said. “It was a very good effort today, but he’s still got a lot to learn. He stuck to his guns though and gave a good kick.”
