Double Strike In Singapore

WS ended the racing season in Singapore on a memorable note with a winning double at Kranji. Warspirit rocked punters when he downed his class four rivals at odds of 25-1, while Meaisin closed out the card with a comprehensive victory in similar company.

A son of Scaredee Cat and a $48,000 yearling, Warspirit placed in all three of his New Zealand starts from the Cambridge stable of Tony Pike and Mark Donoghue. He was subsequently transferred to Mark Walker’s Singapore team and has now won three times. He is out of the winning O’Reilly mare Lucerne, who is a half-sister to Gr 2 performer Smartway (Pins).

The well-related Meaisin is a half-brother by Zabeel to the Gr 2 Makybe Stakes winner Vigor (O’Reilly), the Gr 2 Wellington Guineas winner Joey Massino (O’Reilly) and the multiple stakes winner Vincent Mangano (No Excuse Needed). They are out of the Housebuster mare Rationable with Gr 2 Hawke’s Bay Guineas and Gr 1 performer Antonio Lombardo (Pins) another family member.

Meaisin was originally purchased at Karaka by Danny O’Brien for $300,000 and won twice from his Flemington stable. He was making his Singapore debut last night for new handler Brian Dean after placing in two trials.
