Top ride gets Posy home
21 October 2013
The sister to the triple Gr 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas, AJC Oaks and Windsor Park Plate winner Daffodil was second-up after a break and showed she had come back in outstanding order.
Trained by Tony Pike and Mark Donoghue at Cambridge, Posy had little luck when resuming at Te Rapa and made no mistake this time to bury her Rating 65 rivals. “She was slow out and that probably suits her,” said stable representative Wayne Pike. “She’s had a few feet problems that have held her up, but she’s got plenty of narural ability.”
The four-year-old was again tardy from the barrier at Arawa Park and Innes let her settle near the rail. He was off the fence into the straight and drove Posy between runners for a narrow, but impressive win. Bred and raced by WS, she is out of the O’Reilly mare Spring who has also produced the multiple winner Spring Dancer and the Hong Kong Group One-performed Smart Giant.
