Said Com Back In Style
16 June 2013
Said Com made a welcome return to his winning ways at Rosehill on Saturday afternoon to put his career firmly back on track. The WS graduate had posted his last success in August of last year, but has placed numerous times since, including a runner-up finish in the Gr 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap and a third in the Gr 3 Neville Sellwood Handicap.
“The writing has been on the wall that he would be a good horse but somewhere along the way it hasn’t gone to plan,” Waller said. “We probably didn’t identify his most suitable distance until recently. When you see him come back next preparation you will notice that he will be kept to 1200 and 1300 metre races.”
Bred by Waikato Stud and runner-up to Mosheen in the Gr 1 Randwick Guineas at his sixth start, Said Com was back to 1400 metres on Saturday and showed his true worth with a spirited finish getting him the prize. “The pace they went suited me nicely and enabled him to give a good kick once I got the split,” rider Hugh Bowman said.
A son of O’Reilly, Said Com was purchased by Waller for $270,000 from WS’s Premier draft to Karaka in 2010. He is out of the Centaine mare Centa Belt who is a half-sister to the Gr 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas winner Master Belt.
