Stylish Sequin Dazzles At Matamata
28 October 2011
Sequin deservedly posted the first victory of her career at Matamata today and she is confidently expected to develop into a future black type contender. The WS-bred and raced daughter of Pins had finished runner-up on debut and filled a similar position at her previous appearance at Taupo.
Matamata trainer Graham Richardson said the form around the mare was excellent and he tipped bright things ahead of the four-year-old. “She’s been beaten by a couple of handy horses and she’ll just keep improving – she’s still a bit immature yet,” he said.
Prior to breaking through in dashing style, Sequin had run second to stablemate Villifye and the O’Reilly half-sister to the Gr 1 Queensland Oaks winner Miss Keepsake has since trumped a Rating 70 line-up at Te Rapa. With a gear change today, Sequin broke quickly from the outside gate for Michael Coleman to make the running and, after easing clear on the turn, she strolled home by three and three-quarter lengths
“That’s a great result and they are hard to roll when they get to the front here and travel,” Richardson said. Sequin is out of the O’Reilly mare Glitzy who won nine races, including the Listed Rotorua Stakes, She has made an excellent start to her career with her only other foal to race Glintzy, a brother to Sequin, a multiple winner in Australia and Gr 3 placed in the Hawkesbury Gold Cup. WS sold another Pins colt at Karaka earlier this year to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for 300,000
