Savabeel filly stakes claim for matamata

Gold Fever showed she was ready for an upcoming Group Two test with a sterling victory at Te Rapa this afternoon. The daughter of Savabeel won for the second time in her brief career and she will now head into the Gr 2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes at the top of her game.

An $A110,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Te Akau principal David Ellis, Gold Fever was co-bred by WS and she is out of the Group-winning Oratorio mare Gold Rocks. “The Breeders’ Stakes has been the plan for some time,” said Jamie Richards, who prepares the juvenile with Stephen Autridge. “She’s continuing to improve and we think there will be a bit more to come for our home track feature as well. She can get her head on the side, but she was better today and more racing will help her.”

Gold Fever, whose half-sister Gold Rush won the Breeders’ Stakes 12 months ago, travelled comfortably under Cameron Lammas in second spot to the turn. They took control 300 metres from home and the filly held a strong gallop to the post to win with ease.
